Colour Therapy

Colour Therapy is a complementary therapy for which there is evidence dating back thousands of years to the ancient cultures of Egypt, China and India, where it was understood that each colour has its own particular wavelength and energy.

Colour is simply light of varying wavelengths and frequencies.

As an energy, colour forms just a small part of the electromagnetic spectrum.

"Visible light" corresponds to a wavelength range of ~400 - 700 nanometers (nm) and a colour range of violet through red. The human eye is not capable of "seeing" radiation with wavelengths outside this visible spectrum.

Each colour has its own properties with its own wavelength and frequency within the visible spectrum.

Although white could be said to be a colour, it is generally not included in the scientific spectrum as it is in fact made up of all the colours of the spectrum, but it is often referred to as being a colour.

Isaac Newton proved that white light is indeed made up of colours by passing natural sunlight through a glass prism which resulted in a projected rainbow of colours on a surface.

He then proceeded to use a second glass prism and combined the light from the first prism (which split the suns rays into sperate colours) to produce white light once again. Thus proving white light (ie the sun) contains colour.

Since ancient times in the cultures of Egypt, China and India, it has been understood that the energy relating to each of the seven spectrum colours of red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo and violet, resonates with the energy of each of the seven main energy centres of the body, sometimes known as chakras.

If you can imagine the chakras as a set of cogs or wheels, they are rather like the workings of a clock or an engine; each cog/wheel needs to move smoothly for the clock/engine to work properly. Thus good health and well-being is achieved by a balance of all these energies working together. Balance of the energy in each of the body's chakras is very important for health and well-being.

Colour therapy can help to re-balance and/or stimulate these energies by applying the appropriate colour to the body and thereby re-balancing our chakras.
